Donald Trump just caved
Earlier today Judge Merchan fined Donald Trump for his social media posts that violated his gag order, threatened him with prison if he keeps doing it, and ordered him to take the posts down. This is a big deal because it sets a clear path for Trump to get locked up before he even gets to the verdict in this trial.
Sure enough, Trump has now caved, immediately deleting the offending posts from his Truth Social site. Trump has a consistent tendency to cower and back down in the face of superior strength, so it’s not surprising that he’s caving here.
Of course this doesn’t mean it’ll last. Even now that Trump has taken these posts down, his deteriorating psychological condition suggests that he’ll soon go back to making posts that violate his gag order. So we can presumably look forward to seeing Trump locked up before this trial is over, unless his babysitters permanently take his phone away.
