Donald Trump is trying to burn it all down

I try not to look at Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts too often, for the same reason I try not to drink bleach: it tastes bad and it’s poisonous. But periodically it’s worth checking in on Trump’s ramblings, if only to monitor his declining headspace as things continue to fall apart for him. What stands out about his posts over the past 24 hours in particular is that he really has no one and nothing left, and he’s at a point where there’s nothing else for him to do but burn it all down.

Here’s a sampling of Trump’s most recent social media posts: an attack on his former allies at the right wing Club for Growth. An attack on his former quasi-ally Paul Ryan. An attack on his former co-conspirator Rupert Murdoch. Several attacks on his various other former allies at Fox News. An attack on his former sidekick Nikki Haley. An attack on his former protege Ron DeSantis.

You see the pattern, right? Trump viciously attacking his enemies is nothing new. But what is new is that at this point he sees pretty much everyone as his enemy. That’s because everyone knows that he’s on the verge of being criminally indicted in multiple jurisdictions, and even many of his former allies are now selfishly moving on without him.

Donald Trump clearly feels abandoned, alone, and afraid. And he’s correct about that. It’s not just that the rest of the Republican Party and the right wing is trying to get away from him before the handcuffs are slapped on. It’s that three of his own attorneys have reportedly testified against him to a federal grand jury. At a time when he needs allies more than ever, he’s instead being betrayed and abandoned on every level. The world’s least loyal man is being treated disloyally across the board, and he just can’t handle it.
