Donald Trump is out of gas

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump is technically running for president. I say “technically” because he isn’t really doing all that much. Occasionally he’ll leave his home and make a speech or have a rally, But there’s a problem. Trump sounds — dull — Very dull. Dull as dishwater.

And many are speaking out about it. They’re talking about how the Donald Trump of 2016 isn’t the same Trump of today. He sounds robotic. He reads from a script. His whole presentation is — for the birds? It appears so. Here is an example of what is being said. At the Lincoln Day dinner, most Republican candidates were there. And so was Trump, who spoke.

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu appeared on ABC’S This Week. And he was specifically asked: how did Trump do at this dinner?

“Trump got a warm reception, but it was without a doubt, and I think anybody in that room would tell you it was the worst speech.”

“It was the worst ten minutes. He came out, he read, he read from a binder.”

“He didn’t look up; he didn’t smile. It was — it was an absolute dead speech.”

“This is not the Donald Trump of 2016. Don’t fool yourselves.”

Wow. Talk about a vote of non-confidence. But it isn’t very surprising when one thinks about it. Trump doesn’t sound upbeat these days because he can’t. How in the hell could he? The man is looking at YEARS — years and years of prison time. He is indicted on dozens of charges, which, like acres of flat cornfields, stretch on and on and on, into eternity, with no end in sight.

So, of course, he isn’t the same Trump. Of course, he will not sound the same. And there’s another reason. When one is not passionate about something, one will show it. And despite his “run” for President, it is pretty evident that Trump’s heart is not in this.

He goes through the motions these days. It seems apparent that he doesn’t want to be there and would probably rather be at home eating a cheeseburger. At this point, Trump is just phoning it in. He’s not a real candidate; he’s a criminal running to stay out of prison, vainly hoping he can pull out a win. This is not happening, and based on his complete metamorphosis into a robot, I think Trump — deep down — knows it as well.
