Donald Trump is isolated, confused, and has no idea what’s even going on
Donald Trump seemed shocked this past week when Special Counsel Jack Smith was able to continue making filings in the criminal case in Washington DC, even though the case was technically on “hold” while the appeals court is in the process of ruling against Trump. Any attorney or legal expert could have explained this to Trump in advance, but he didn’t seem to see it coming.
Trump also seemed shocked this past week when New York Attorney General Letitia James increased the damages in the civil fraud trial from $250 million to $370 million, even though a legal expert predicted two months ago that the damages would be increased to roughly that number.
Donald Trump never seems to have any idea what’s going on in the civil and criminal cases against him. He doesn’t know how anything in the legal system works, or what any of the developments in any of his cases mean. He’s about as far behind the curve as one can be.
We keep hearing about how this is all part of Trump’s secret evil genius strategy that’s so clever we can’t even understand it, and that Trump is in reality several steps ahead of us. But if that were the case, Trump would have to at some point win something. And he hasn’t.
He failed in his effort to avoid getting indicted to begin with. He failed in his various efforts to intimidate witnesses against him. He failed in his effort to get Fani Willis fired. He failed in his effort to stop the New York fraud trial from happening. He lost his first trial against E. Jean Carroll. He’s failing in his effort to stop his second E. Jean Carroll trial from happening. He’s failing thus far in his effort to keep his name on the ballot in all 50 states. And he’s in the process of failing to delay his Washington DC criminal trial.
So how exactly is this guy supposed to be ahead of the game? He keeps losing on all fronts. Then he talks like a guy who has no idea why he’s losing and no idea what’s going on. Then we’re told that this is all part of his secret evil genius strategy to win. Then he keeps losing on all fronts.
At what point can we just accept the obvious answer? Trump does indeed have no idea what’s going on. He doesn’t know what the rulings and developments in his various trials even mean. He’s fully isolated from what’s really going on, and his people are instead feeding him simplistic fairy tales about how it’s all going to be okay, because that’s all his addled mind can process.
Donald Trump is losing on all fronts, has no idea what’s going on, and lacks the capacity to grasp any of it. It’s time we start simply saying so, instead of spinning everything that happens into a narrative about how Trump is more dangerously powerful than ever. Trump doesn’t even know what the hell’s going on.
