Donald Trump is in full cognitive collapse
As bad of cognitive shape as Donald Trump was in two years ago – and it was fairly obvious back then – he’s in demonstrably worse shape now. We know this because Trump keeps popping up and giving speeches, and utterly humiliating himself in the process. It’s time we seriously, seriously talk about how senile Trump is becoming. It’s also time we talk about why so many folks on our side don’t want to talk about it.
Trump is at a point where he can’t remember which side of the Israel-Hamas conflict he’s supposed to be on. He can’t keep his story straight even when he’s reading it off a teleprompter. And he’s so lacking in focus and awareness, he’s prone to drifting off into stories about how he’d rather get electrocuted than eaten by a shark.
On Monday alone, Trump declared the Afghanistan war to be “boring,” appeared to confuse Hamas with hummus, and then tried and failed to say “Christmas.” Yes, this really happened:

There’s almost nothing left of this guy. He is senile. This is a statement of fact. It’s just as true whether we love him or hate him. Many of us have older relatives who have gone through this kind of rapid, jarring cognitive decline. It’s very different in the sense that our loved ones are good people, while Trump is a criminal psychopath. But it’s still dementia. It’s exactly what’s happening with Trump. You know it when you see it.
But every time I point out the (obvious) fact that Trump is senile, large numbers of folks on our side begin trying to shush me. They’re convinced that if Trump is labeled senile, he’ll somehow magically avoid going to prison. Many have even convinced themselves that Trump is faking senility in order to magically get off the legal hook. BUT NOTHING WORKS THIS WAY.
For starters, Trump isn’t faking it. His behavior matches up precisely with dementia. He’s not some skilled actor who would be able to portray dementia in precise fashion. Nor has he ever had the discipline to consistently stick to something like that. Trump is indeed senile.
For that matter, there’s no such thing as getting off the legal hook by faking senility. It doesn’t work that way. You don’t magically avoid prison because you can’t remember whether you support Israel or Hamas, or because you tell bizarre stories about sharks. Even if this were an act on Trump’s part, it wouldn’t help him one bit. And again, it’s absolutely not an act.
So we can safely set aside all that doomsday hysteria about how Trump’s worsening senility is somehow magically going to save him. Nothing comes within ten million miles of working that way. It doesn’t matter how many people on social media claim Trump’s senility can get him off the legal hook, it’s still nonsense. Just as it doesn’t matter how many people on social media claim the sky is purple, it’s still nonsense. Nonsense to be ignored.
Back in the real world, Trump’s worsening senility is one of the best things that we have going for us. The other party’s current frontrunner in the next presidential election is demonstrably senile. This means that if they go through with nominating him, he won’t just be a non-viable nominee who’s on his way to prison, he’ll be a non-viable nominee who gets confused and wanders off the stage in the middle of the debate after having an imaginary conversation with a squirrel.
More to the point, if the general public comes to see Donald Trump as senile in 2023, he won’t even make it to 2024. It’ll immediately end his supposed political viability. “Trump 2024” has all just been a media creation anyway. His embarrassing lack of campaign donations over the past two quarters make clear that even folks on his side of the fence don’t think he’s going to be an actual candidate by the time we get to the election.
If Trump is widely seen as senile, that will push him off the political stage even more quickly than his criminal trials can. Trump’s senility is the closest thing we have to a magic wand, because it shoves him right out the back door of the next election cycle. We should be shouting from the rooftops about how senile Trump is.
Yet the mainstream media, on both sides, largely ignores Trump’s worsening senility. The media knows that if it admits Trump is senile, people will figure out he’s not actually going to be a part of the 2024 conversation, and they’ll get bored and go watch football.
But even if the major media outlets were inclined to talk more about Trump’s senility, all they have to do is look around social media and see how many folks on our side don’t want Trump’s senility talked about, and that might be enough to discourage them from covering it. At the end of the day, the media always goes where it thinks the ratings are.
Trump’s senility should be a huge ratings story. The Republican frontrunner for President, who’s already on his way to prison, is now visibly suffering from severe dementia on top of it. Talk about a story. But the media won’t go there, as long as so many folks on our side are foolishly yelling “Don’t talk about Trump’s senility, it’ll only get him off the legal hook.”
At this point we should be screaming – screaming – about Trump’s worsening senility. It’s that big of a story. And it just so happens to be that big of an advantage for our side. If anything we need to start actively pushing back against the people on our own side who keep trying to silence us whenever we try to talk about Trump’s senility. He’s a lock for prison no matter how badly his brain rots. Let’s use his senility to push him off the political stage before he even gets to prison.
