How close are we to the start of Donald Trump’s first criminal trial? The judge is now issuing trial-related gag orders against Trump, even as Trump tries to figure out what he can and can’t get away with ranting about on social media. In the nineteen days between now and the start of the trial, Trump will undoubtedly try everything from smearing the judge’s family to trying to unduly influence witnesses. We know Trump’s playbook by now. We know how it’ll go.

We also know that it won’t work. We’ve already seen enough out of this judge to know that he’s not going to be intimidated by Trump’s antics. We’ve seen enough out of prosecutor Alvin Bragg to know that he’s not going to be intimidated either. And if Trump thinks he can intimidate witnesses like Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels, he’s delusional.

We just finished watching Trump go through the E. Jean Carroll trial and the Letitia James trial. We saw Trump try every two bit trick in the book. And none of it got him anywhere. Trump’s antics went so poorly for him, he ended up losing those trials by a combined half a billion dollars. And now he’s moving on to criminal trials, where losing means going to prison.

As we get closer to the start of Trump’s first criminal trial, we’re going to see a ton of hand wringing on TV and Twitter about how Trump is pulling this or that stunt that’s going to let him throw the trial and “get away with it all.” But we know that’s not how it works. Trump will merely be firing proverbial blanks. Instead of fretting over Trump’s antics, let’s be sure to call out Trump’s pathetic antics for being so laughably ineffective.
