Donald Trump hits the panic button as his numbers tank
Donald Trump is now definitively behind in the polls, and that can mean as much or as little to you as you want it to. You already know all the pros and cons of looking at things like polling averages. Maybe you’re pleased to see that President Biden has pulled ahead, or maybe you still don’t think polls matter. But there’s one person who definitely thinks polls matter, and he’s the one who’s on the wrong end of them.
Trump is now behind Biden in the majority of national polls and swing state polls that have been released since Trump became a convicted felon. We don’t know how much further he’ll fall, but he’s clearly falling – and he can’t handle it.
Trump has spent the past few days viciously attacking Fox News, after the latest national poll from Fox News showed that Biden has pulled ahead. Of course Trump’s issues with the polls don’t stop with mere anger, and have advanced straight to denialism.
Trump has now announced on social media that he’s ahead in the polls both nationally and in every single swing state. It’s not true, but it’s the comforting lie that his babysitters have fed him in order to try to keep him happy. Does Trump actually believe it? That’s a whole other story. But the upshot is that Trump seems terrified at the prospect of having fallen behind in the polls, and as usual, is clinging to whatever delusional hope that anyone around him is willing to feed him.
