Donald Trump hits the panic button

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For awhile the media has been hyping this sort of silly narrative that Donald Trump was somehow becoming more popular with Black voters. The media has been doing what it always does in order to manufacture false narratives – taking individual numbers out of context – but if you look at the overall polling averages, Kamala Harris is on track to get almost exactly the same share of the Black vote in 2024 that Joe Biden got in 2020. In other words, no gain for Trump.

In the midst of a week where Trump has been dazed and confused and hasn’t been able to make inroads with anybody, it now appears to be sinking in for Trump’s babysitters that he’s not finding the votes he needs.

Trump blurted out on social media yesterday that “Kamala’s support is collapsing with Black voters” and then went on to list all the imaginary reasons why this imaginary thing is happening. But you know this works with Trump. When something is going wrong for him and he’s panicking about it, he hyperbolically claims that the opposite is happening. And when Trump’s babysitters are worried about something but they don’t want Trump to know about it, they tell him that the opposite is happening. Either way, Trump’s declaration is a sign that his campaign is really worried about the Black vote. And they should be.

In the first days of early voting in Georgia this week, there was record turnout – and it’s not difficult to figure out that it’s being largely driven by Black voters and women voters. In Michigan, the highest return rate thus far of absentee ballots has been in Detroit, which is overwhelmingly Black. It appears Black voters are not only turning out for Kamala Harris, they’re doing so early and with enthusiasm – and that’s probably what has the Trump campaign panicked.

Kamala Harris was always going to get the vast majority of the Black vote over Donald Trump. The question was whether Black voter turnout would be higher than usual. This week we’re starting to get that answer. No wonder the Trump campaign is panicking.

But elections are not won on October 17th. We still have nineteen more days of voting to go. We all need to continue working to help drive voter turnout for Kamala Harris among all demographics and regions. Go here and get involved: go.kamalaharris.com
