Donald Trump has late night meltdown after Paul Manafort agrees to plea deal
Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Special Counsel Robert Mueller have agreed to a tentative plea deal tonight, according to ABC News. This is playing out even as it’s been revealed that Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual assault, and that the FBI is taking the matter seriously. And of course a potentially devastating hurricane is hitting the east coast tonight. So how is Donald Trump handling it all?
If you guessed “Randomly accusing John Kerry of conspiring with a foreign enemy to commit crimes,” you win the prize. No, really. Donald Trump has decided that the former Secretary of State is a puppet of the government of Iran. Based on what? Nothing, of course, but that doesn’t matter. This is simply how Trump’s mind works. Manafort is preparing to plead guilty on charges relating to his status as a puppet of the Russian government, which helps expose Trump as a puppet of Russia, so Trump is now projecting this onto someone on the other side.
Here’s what Trump tweeted: “John Kerry had illegal meetings with the very hostile Iranian Regime, which can only serve to undercut our great work to the detriment of the American people. He told them to wait out the Trump Administration! Was he registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? BAD!” The tweet itself is appalling, but it’s the “BAD!” at the end that makes it art.
Then Donald Trump decided to randomly plug a new book written by one of his own cronies. We’ve reached the point where Trump can’t figure out if he’s just caught an American diplomat committing the crime of the century, or if he’s a late night pitch man for his friends’ ginsu knives. This tells you everything you need to know about how Trump is handling the Manafort and Kavanaugh news: he isn’t handling it.
