Donald Trump has completely bonkers meltdown about his criminal trial, gives away that he has no chance
Donald Trump is now just one expedited U.S. Court of Appeals ruling, and one Supreme Court shrug, away from going on criminal trial in March. You’d think he’d be at least trying to prepare some kind of trial defense, right? The evidence against him is overwhelming. Think again. Instead Trump is focused entirely on… well, evidence that doesn’t exist.
Trump has announced on social media that Liz Cheney of all people decided to “ILLEGALLY DELETE & DESTROY most of the evidence, and related items, from the January 6th Committee of Political Thugs and Misfits.” Trump then goes on to claim that this “MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY LAWYERS TO PROPERLY PREPARE FOR, AND PRESENT, A PROPER DEFENSE OF THEIR CLIENT, ME.”
That’s right, Trump made a point of spelling out that his lawyers’ client is indeed him. But that’s the least of his problems here. Trump is already reduced to pretending there’s imaginary evidence out there that exonerates him but it was destroyed. Even if such evidence did exist, the fact that he can’t produce it means that it can’t help him.
If this is what Trump is focused on, then it means he’s already pretty much lost his criminal trial before it begins. He has no trial strategy at all. Instead he’s reduced to pinning his hopes on this imaginary “evidence” in his favor somehow surfacing. If he goes into court and tries to use this kind of argument at trial, he might as well just get fitted for his prison jumpsuit now.
But the bigger story here may be just how badly Donald Trump is losing it, and how ridiculous his meltdowns are getting as his first criminal trial comes closer. Trump is now reduced to accusing Liz Cheney of being a “RADICAL LEFT LUNATIC.” Come on. No one anywhere buys that silliness. Trump is simply out of gas.
