Donald Trump has become a complete joke and he knows it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Barely six months ago, Donald Trump was the most powerful and relevant man in the world. Not that he did anything to earn that position. Not that he did anything of any value with his position once it landed in his lap. But he was in fact the President of the United States, the Commander-in-Chief of the most fearsome military in the world, and the central figure on Twitter.

So even though we’ve all watched Trump’s collapse from relevance as this year has gone on, it still feels surreal. He tried the dumbest plan of all time to try to illegally keep himself in office, and when that failed because it always had a 100% chance of failing, he limped out of office like a broken man, Twitter account gone, with nothing to show for it. Then he started really falling from grace.

Trump tried doing a blog, which only made clear that no one – not even his own supporters – really care what he has to say anymore. When that failed, Trump tried doing an in-person rally, which made clear that he’s too far gone physically and cognitively to be of any value to himself by appearing in public. Now he’s reduced to releasing periodic “press releases” that look suspiciously like tweets.

Today a right wing propaganda outlet posted what it claimed to be a statement from Trump. We won’t post the whole thing. But we will say that it was supposed to be about Father’s Day, and it included the word “Losers.” That’s really all you need to know.

When Donald Trump did this kind of thing while he was President, it was relevant. Inappropriate, idiotic, self defeating, divisive, dangerous, and embarrassing, but – if only because he was President – relevant. When he does it now, it’s just sad. He’s become a nobody, a voiceless has-been. He’s an irrelevant figure who’s seemingly just waiting to be finished off, whether it’s by New York prosecutors or dementia, whichever comes first.

Donald Trump is only still worth covering at all for two reasons. One is that we’ve got to keep one eye on him until he’s finally behind bars for his crimes. The other is that a major U.S. political party is still chaining itself to him as he sinks. So we’ll keep documenting his downfall. But has anyone in recent memory gone from being such a powerful figure, to being such a joke, in such a short period of time?
