Donald Trump hangs Rudy Giuliani out to dry
Earlier this month Rudy Giuliani not-so-subtly let it be known that he wanted Donald Trump to pay his legal bills in exchange for not flipping on him. Michael Cohen and others predicted that Rudy wouldn’t see a penny, and thus far they’ve been proven correct. Now it turns out Trump is abandoning Rudy even more blatantly than that.
Rudy has been reaching out to Trump and asking him to issue a statement asserting Rudy’s innocence, or to file a legal motion asserting that communications between Trump and Rudy were covered under attorney-client privilege, or both. But according to the Daily Beast, Trump can’t even be bothered to do that for Rudy.
To be clear, neither of these moves would help Rudy at all; he’s reached the point of hopeless desperation where he’s making up imaginary magical solutions to save himself and then begging others to get on board with his fantasies. But Trump could do these things just to send a signal to Rudy that he’s still symbolically with him, and it wouldn’t cost Trump a dollar.
Yet Trump is refusing to do it anyway, and we all know why. The federal criminal investigation into Rudy Giuliani’s actions in the Trump-Ukraine scandal could eventually land right in Donald Trump’s lap, and he’s afraid that if he takes a stand against the Feds, it’ll be taken as a sign of guilt – by the Feds and the court of public opinion.
Donald Trump is hanging Rudy Giuliani out to dry. We’ll see if he continues to do so, and if it ultimately prompts Rudy to cut a plea deal against him. At this point Rudy, who has been pretty clearly nailed to the proverbial wall by the Feds and is merely awaiting his inevitable arrest, is running out of time and options.
