Donald Trump had the worst day ever in court today (and it’ll only get worse)

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump talks a big game. His supporters don’t care what he says. They will vote for him regardless. Why? Only trained psychiatrists can answer that question, and if the truth be told, Trump doesn’t seem very sane himself. He wanted to give the summation in his New York fraud trial. Seriously? Trump isn’t qualified to do such a thing. Of course, his lawyers are barely more qualified than Trump, but only lawyers give summations. Judge Engoron has likely heard enough from Trump to last his lifetime. Because he respects no one, Trump gave a six-minute speech (which AP accurately called a “diatribe”). Trump “testified,” if you can call it that: “We have a situation where I am an innocent man. I’m being persecuted by someone running for office and I think you have to go outside the bounds.” Where Trump ever got the idea that President Joe Biden is creating all these charges against him is not known to anyone with sense, but he continues to harp on his claim. Six minutes was apparently as much as Engoron could take, as he cut Trump off and called for the lunch recess.

Trump complained to the press that Engoron would not allow him to speak because he would say things “the judge doesn’t want to hear,” according to Salon. Engoron had a good idea of what Trump would say, and no, he didn’t want to hear Trump whining and complaining again. According to Mediaite, CNN anchor John Berman and CNN legal analyst Paula Reid fact-checked Trump’s claims, and Berman called it: “a political speech filled with some legal inaccuracies.” Oh, come on. All Trump does is lie. Fact-checking him is a waste of time. The funny thing is that Engoron agreed to allow Trump to speak if he stuck to the judge’s restrictions, but Trump’s lawyers refused. As Berman said, “It’s not about the law, really. It’s about politics. It’s about the campaign. And that was very obvious as he was walking into that courtroom.” Berman is right to a certain extent; however, Trump rants to rile up his vicious supporters.

Legal analyst Norm Eisen said: “He shot himself in the foot at his own press conference.” Eisen also said that AG Letitia James “knocked the stuffing” out of Trump’s best defense. That’s not hard to do. Trump has no legitimate defenses in civil or criminal trials. If he could use the defense of “I’m a hateful bastard who does whatever I want,” he would at least be telling the truth. His other defenses come from Fantasy Island. He assaulted Jean Carroll, he defrauded New York and his bankers, and he’s guilty of the crimes of which he has been accused. That’s why he keeps going after full immunity-he has no defense. That “defense” will come off the table if the Court of Appeals rules as it should. No president can be allowed to commit crimes and get away with it. If that is allowed, we will all be free to do whatever we want without repercussion, and we will be returning to the wild west.
