Back in 2016 every cable news network would air every Donald Trump rally speech because it was good for ratings, thus giving him free advertising in the process, and directly helping to install him into office. But by 2020, MSNBC and CNN were rarely airing Trump’s speeches, leaving Fox News as the only major outlet to still put him on the air. Post-2020 even Fox largely stopped airing Trump’s speeches, perhaps only because they exposed how senile he was becoming.

But now that Trump is pretending to be a 2024 candidate on his way to prison, Fox News decided to air his speech today after all. That was until Trump’s speech went so far off the rails that Fox felt compelled to cut him off and start issuing corrections about the lies he said.

Interestingly, Fox News didn’t merely correct Trump on his “big lie” about the 2020 election (which has gotten Fox into legal trouble in the past). Fox also pointed out that Trump was lying about being the reason why the stock market is going up.

This is notable because Fox didn’t have to correct Trump’s stock market lie for legal reasons. Instead Fox presumably did so because Trump’s stock market lie is so laugh out loud absurd, even the average Fox viewer is going to see it as a lie – and Fox has to maintain “credibility” with its own audience.

When the cable news outlets are at a point where they can’t put a certain 2024 “candidate” live on the air because of all the laugh out loud lies he’s going to tell, it’s time for the cable news outlets to admit that this guy isn’t actually a candidate. He’s pretending to run for President in order to raise money on his way to prison. And it’s time everyone admits as much.
