Donald Trump fails to stick to the script

After the continuing resolution in the budget bill passed the Senate, a lot of Democrats were outraged – somewhat rightly so, and perhaps being right about the Senate needing new leadership and a new approach to deal with Republicans and Donald Trump. I don’t necessarily disagree with any of that – though I do caution how we the voters proceed from here on out. While the GOP seemed to cheer on Chuck Schumer and the other nine Democrats that voted with their side, as did Donald Trump himself – much to the further chagrin of Democratic voters, they weren’t able to keep up appearances for very long.
Not long afterwards, Donald Trump gave a long and demented speech to the Department of Justice where he basically called The New York Times, CNN, and MSNBC national traitors who were deliberately sabotaging his administration. It’s a boring, familiar song and dance – though a bit more unhinged since this is in his speeches now rather than just his Twitter feed – accusing them of colluding with judges who won’t rule in his favor.
This overlapped with Elon Musk going on his usual rant about how any judge can overrule the president – which is pretty much the definition of what a check and balance is. Had the government been shut down, both of these clowns had every intention of ignoring and abusing the laws even further without congressional oversight and likely no longer the courts to stop them.
For all of his bluster, Trump couldn’t stay to the script for long – and his vision of America is being laid out quite clearly. It’s long past time for places like CNN and MSNBC to stop propping him up and actually do their due diligence on this administration that they helped bring back to power – particularly when provisions in the new CR affect journalists who live in Washington, DC to cover politics.
