Donald Trump can’t help himself, begins attacking E. Jean Carroll again, may have just cost himself even more money
Donald Trump just lost $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll, not only because he raped her and then claimed he’d never met her, but also because he kept attacking Carroll as the trial process played out. Trump just couldn’t help himself, and it cost him dearly. The question has been whether Trump would finally learn his lesson, or whether he would resume attacking Carroll and cost himself even more money.
For the first day and a half after the verdict, Trump behaved himself. But today he shared a Breitbart article on Truth Social titled “15 Facts About E. Jean Carroll’s Allegations Against Trump the Media Don’t Want You to Know.” A lot of people like to say that retweets and other social shares aren’t endorsements of what’s being shared, but that’s not universally agreed upon.
Trump’s handlers may have told him that he can get away with sharing attacks that other people have written about Carroll. But given how severely Trump has already been cracked down on for attacking Carroll, it’s hard to imagine that Trump can get away with saying or posting anything about her at this point.
Of course there’s the question of whether E. Jean Carroll wants to keep pursuing this. There is also the question of whether Judge Kaplan would be willing to summarily tack on additional penalties against Trump as part of the trial that just ended, or whether Carroll would need to bring a new case against Trump.
But keep in mind that when Donald Trump does this kind of thing, he’s not “getting away” with it. He kept doing it throughout the trials, and it ended up costing him a ton. If he keeps forcing the issue, he’s only making an even bigger mess for himself.
