Donald Trump blew it

There’s a reason I spent the 2020 election cycle urging everyone not to succumb to the notion that Donald Trump had already rigged the election and was going to win no matter what. That wasn’t true, but if enough people on our side had concluded it was true, then they wouldn’t have bothered to put in the work or vote, and it could have become a self fulfilling prophecy.

It seems Trump himself never really thought this concept through. We’ll never know for sure if his constant talk of a “rigged election” caused his own supporters to stay home in November, under the presumption that he was going to lose anyway, instead of bothering to vote for him. But now that Trump is pushing this message so loudly after losing, it’s becoming clear that a number of his supporters no longer see any reason to bother participating in the Georgia Senate runoffs, figuring it’s rigged against their candidates anyway.

This works greatly to our advantage. Large chunks of the Republican electorate in Georgia are now busy yelling around about how the “rigged election” was “stolen” from them, and they don’t really care about the Senate runoff races. If Trump had promptly conceded, the GOP could have spun the runoffs as a check on President Biden. But instead it’s all just part of Trump’s self serving conspiracy theories. Trump blew it, for himself and for the GOP.

This gives us a huge opportunity to put in the work and flip these two seats. If you have any money left, you can donate jointly to Ossoff and Warnock at this ActBlue link.
