Donald Trump appears to tip off that he’s being charged under the Insurrection Act

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For the past week Donald Trump has been acting like he’s been expecting to get indicted by Jack Smith for January 6th at any moment. But something changed today when Trump suddenly got oddly specific with his ranting.

Trump posted one of his usual made-up phony stories about President Joe Biden, then added “ Is he being charged under the Insurrection Act?” Wait a minute here. Why is Trump, the king of projection, suddenly calling for his enemy to be charged under the Insurrection Act? That’s not a charge that Trump is even facing. It doesn’t make any sense. Even if Biden had stolen classified documents, why would he be indicted under the Insurrection Act? That’s a charge for trying to overthrow the government. Which is what Trump did. And yet the Insurrection Act is not a charge that Trump has been ranting about on social media – until today.

Remember, Jack Smith’s grand jury met at least twice this week, but as best anyone in the media can tell, didn’t hear from any witnesses. This suggests the grand jury is now in the indictment stage. It really makes you wonder if Jack Smith has now informed Trump that he’s being charged under the Insurrection Act. After all, Trump had to have gotten that oddly specific term from somewhere. The last time Smith indicted Trump, he let Trump know about a week in advance. So it makes sense that Smith would once again inform Trump of new impending charges.

If Trump is being indicted this upcoming week, the next headline to watch for would be that Jack Smith’s team has met with Donald Trump’s attorneys to inform them that he’s about to be indicted again. That said, even if we don’t end up adding such a headline, it won’t mean that such a meeting hasn’t taken place. This kind of information tends to come from Trump’s side, not Smith’s side. So far all that Trump has given us is that the Insurrection Act is suddenly front and center on Trump’s mind – and there has to be a specific reason for that. UPDATE, 6:01pm: Trump has now edited his post to change “Insurrection Act” to “Espionage Act.” Curiouser and curiouser.
