Donald Trump and the Republicans just set a land speed record for losing
House Republicans, whose incoming majority is so fragile they haven’t even figured out how to pick a Speaker, sure are making a lot of threats about all the things they’re going to do – including a number of things that are literally impossible or don’t exist. Back in the real world, Republicans may have just set a land speed record for the number of losses they’ve racked up in the past twenty-four hours.
Donald Trump in particular has had a devastating stretch. First the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals almost literally laughed him out of court yesterday, clearing the way for it to strike down the entire remainder of the Special Master nonsense, and removing the biggest remaining hurdle in the DOJ’s indictment of Trump. Then the Supreme Court ruled that the House can immediately have Trump’s tax returns, at a time when the Democrats still retain control of the House and its committees through the end of the term.
Elsewhere, Senator Lindsey Graham finally caved and testified to a grand jury in the Fulton County District Attorney’s criminal case against Trump. Graham then told the media that he did indeed answer every question and did not try to invoke the Fifth Amendment. This is surely the last thing Graham wanted to do, but we always suspected that if he was ever forced to directly choose between remaining loyal to Trump and saving himself, Graham would choose himself.
Also in Georgia, an appeals court ruled yesterday against Republicans’ efforts to curtail Saturday early voting in the Senate runoff race, meaning Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock will get a fair shot at winning. You can donate to the Warnock campaign here.
