Donald Trump and his lawyers are finding out the hard way today
Donald Trump has spent his political career spouting the kind of gibberish that’s allowed angry losers to feel like self righteous winners, and that’s all he’s ever really needed. But now that Trump is being forced to operate in the criminal justice system, it doesn’t work that way. Trump keeps finding that out the hard way.
Trump and his lawyers spent the day trying to convince the U.S. Court of Appeals that he can’t be criminally prosecuted for actions he took while in office, because impeachment is the only remedy for such behavior. But the appeals court quickly pointed out today that back when Trump was being impeached for January 6th, he argued that he shouldn’t be removed from office because criminal court was the only remedy for such behavior.
In that moment alone today, Trump all but officially lost his appeal. You can’t go into court and spout gibberish and expect it to work. You can’t go into court and argue the exact opposite of what you previously argued, and expect it to work. You can only expect to get laughed at, and lose.
Trump will lose this U.S. Court of Appeals hearing within days. And he’s going to lose it in such embarrassingly inept fashion, it’ll make it a lot harder for the U.S. Supreme Court to even consider taking up the case. At this rate Trump’s federal criminal trial is still on track to take place on time. Trump simply doesn’t have a magic “delay” wand and never did.
