Donald Trump goes ape shit as it all falls apart for him
The problem for Donald Trump isn’t just that he’s an incompetent defendant with an incompetent legal strategy. It’s that even if he were a competent defendant with a competent legal strategy, he’d still be screwed because he’s so clearly guilty. He’s also unwittingly proving that you can’t realistically run for President while out on bail awaiting criminal trial.
It all started coming to a head on Monday when Trump had a very bad day all around. The judge in his 1/6 federal criminal trial pretty much laughed at his request for a 2026 trial, and ordered a March 2024 trial instead. Trump’s lawyer fared so poorly during the hearing that you have to wonder if he’ll still be employed by the time this gets to trial. And to top it all off, one new poll says that Trump’s latest arrest and failure to show up for the Republican debate have now knocked six points off his Republican primary polling numbers.
Trump isn’t taking it well, to put it mildly. Trump spent the day melting down on social media, falsely claiming that Jack Smith has been “caught going to the White House just prior to” to indicting Trump, and ranting about the “Trump Hating Judge” presiding over his criminal trial. And that was the closest thing to a coherent thought that Trump had all day.
At one point Trump made a social media post containing the following phrases: “these same lowlifes” … “Russia, Russia, Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine” … “DESTROYED & DELETED” … and then he demanded that Jack Smith criminally indict Congress. This stuff is starting to read like the Unabomber manifesto, only less intelligible.
At one point Trump referred to a “rumor” (which he spelled “roomer”) and then he somehow managed to spell “fascist” with an “h” (use your imagination). He’s also now labeling several of his social media posts as “Page 2” – what does he think this is, a novel?
Trump has always been remarkably illiterate, but that’s not the point here. The point is that Trump is rapidly losing what precious little had been left of his mind. He’s waging a losing war on all fronts, and doesn’t appear to even understand what he’s fighting against. We’re watching a man, who has always been psychologically unhinged, figuring out that he’s going to spend the rest of his life in prison.
