DOJ isn’t just targeting Donald Trump, it’s targeting him on multiple fronts

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Part of the trouble with political punditry is that vacuums are always filled with nonsense. Even if Merrick Garland and his DOJ were investigating Donald Trump all this time, they certainly wouldn’t have told us about it early on. These types of investigations are dependent upon initial secrecy in order to gain an advantage over witnesses and such. Every cable news host and online political pundit knows this is how things work. But instead of honestly saying “We don’t have any way of knowing yet if the DOJ is investigating Trump,” we’ve instead been subjected to a year of opportunistically dishonest ratings-driven rhetoric along the lines of “The DOJ can’t possibly be investigating Trump, so everyone panic and keep staring at your screens!”

Even after multiple major news outlets broke the news last week that the DOJ has had a January 6th grand jury targeting Trump world for months, it took all of twenty-four hours for the media (including some of the same news outlets that broke the grand jury story) to revert back to their false narrative that the “DOJ is doing nothing.” Unfortunately, that false narrative is far better for ratings than honestly admitting that there is a DOJ probe into Trump world but that no one knows much about the details or timeframe yet.

And yet the factual reality is that the DOJ has a grand jury targeting Trump’s top underlings, in what is a rather obvious effort at cornering them and flipping them against Trump. It’s simply how these probes work. For the DOJ to make a successful run at prosecuting Trump, it needs inside witnesses who can testify to Trump’s criminal intent when he took various actions. Short of that, getting a conviction against Trump at trial would be a crapshoot.

Now, even as the DOJ is targeting Trump’s top people with a grand jury, it also turns out the DOJ is separately investigating Trump himself for having taken classified documents with him to Mar-a-Lago once his presidency ended. The DOJ surely didn’t want to have to admit this, because it believes secrecy is a key asset in its investigations. But Congress was demanding the records pertaining to this, and the DOJ didn’t want to turn over those records, so it had to admit yesterday that it is indeed investigating Trump in this matter.

This means the DOJ isn’t merely targeting Donald Trump, it’s targeting him on multiple fronts. It’s trying to nail Trump for January 6th and for stealing classified documents. And these are just the two fronts that we know about. Keep in mind that until last week, both of these probes were still a secret. So how many other probes does the DOJ have going against Trump? We don’t have any way of knowing – but given that there are at least two, it’s unlikely that the number stops at just two.

Already, we’re hearing the doomsday pundits try to cover their tracks by suggesting that the DOJ is merely pretending to investigate Donald Trump on these multiple fronts. But that’s so deep into tinfoil hat conspiracy theory territory, it disqualifies these pundits from ever being taken seriously again. The factual reality is that the DOJ is targeting Trump on multiple fronts, and it has been for awhile, and it’s done a pretty good job of keeping it mostly secret. It’s starting to look like Merrick Garland has been a step ahead of us on this the entire time.
