DOJ directly targeting Donald Trump in election overthrow criminal probe

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The Department of Justice has subpoenaed Peter Navarro for all of his communications with Donald Trump about the attempted overthrow of the 2020 election, according to a new report from Politico tonight. This isn’t surprising in the least, if you’ve been following the progress of the DOJ grand jury over the past several months. But it’s nonetheless a huge development which confirms a number of things.

First, this confirms that that DOJ grand jury, which has reportedly been active and working its way up the ranks for at least the past several months, is indeed targeting the Trump regime election overthrow plot – and not merely the the January 6th Capitol attack itself. Second, it confirms that the DOJ views the Navarro plan to overthrow the election as a criminal plot. And given that it’s specifically subpoenaing Navarro’s communications with Donald Trump, it means the DOJ is targeting Trump himself as the kingpin in this criminal plot.

While a lot of this may seem like a given, there’s a world of difference between what’s “obviously true” in the court of public opinion, and what can actually be proven to a trial jury in a court of law. The fact that the DOJ is going there means that it believes it’ll indeed be able to prove the whole thing beyond a reasonable doubt.

It’s also notable that if Navarro fails to comply with the grand jury subpoena and/or tries to destroy the evidence in question, he’ll be guilty of obstruction of justice – ensuring he’ll do prison time. Navarro is obviously going to face more serious criminal charges relating to the attempted election overthrow once this probe is finished. But it’s the obstruction charges that end up being easier to get a conviction on at trial, meaning Navarro is toast even if he were to somehow convince a trial jury to acquit him on the underlying charges.

Navarro’s only way to stay out of prison at this point would be to not only cooperate with the subpoena, but to cut a cooperation deal with the DOJ. Navarro is screwed. The subpoena he’s received should make this abundantly clear to him. And even as much of a crackpot as he is, even he surely understands that his only way to avoid prison is to flip on Donald Trump.

So much for the narrative that the “DOJ is doing nothing.” Even as that nonsense keeps getting kicked around for effect by the most opportunistic of pundits, the DOJ has reached the point where it’s targeting people one rung under Donald Trump and demanding that they give up Donald Trump. The DOJ has been doing a whole lot of something.
