Disqualified!
Disqualified. That is today’s magic word. And it applies to Couy Griffin. Griffin has been removed from his position in the state of New Mexico as Otero County commissioner. It’s WHY he was removed that’s important.
Griffin is the founder of “Cowboys for Trump.” And he was found by the courts to have “engaged in insurrection.” This is, of course, about January 6 — the little (sarcasm) event that Republicans have been unsuccessfully trying to pretend never happened.
And yet it is now official. The District Court Judge found that Griffin had “engaged in insurrection” on January 6. So he was disqualified per the United States Constitution from holding office either federally or state-wide. It’s a good day for lady Justice. Several activist groups and law firms had filed lawsuits against Griffin.
In their filing, they alleged that Griffin was not allowed to hold office based on section three of the fourteenth amendment. The Judge remarked in the ruling that Griffin had “normalized” the events of January 6. Griffin had already been found guilty of illegally entering the Capitol that horrible day.
This is absolutely huge news. It’s the first time since the year 1869 that a politician has been disqualified on these grounds. This also marks the first time a Judge has out those words “insurrection” in a ruling. Griffin is a conspiracy quack and had previously refused to certify the Otero County primary results.
Griffin was most definitely NOT happy about the results, calling the Judge: tyrannical” and also telling reporters he’s been ordered to “clean out his desk.” We could not be happier to see him go.
