Did Michael Flynn just give away that the DOJ and the January 6th Committee are working together?

Last night the news broke that the January 6th Committee is looking to make a criminal referral against Donald Trump to the Department of Justice, on two charges, one of which is wire fraud for his fraudulent fundraising from the Big Lie. Earlier today we pointed out that a few weeks ago the news broke that the DOJ was investigating former Trump election lawyer Sidney Powell for the same crime. This didn’t sound like a coincidence to us, and we took it as a potential sign that the 1/6 Committee and the DOJ may now be coordinating on some level.

Now tonight Michael Flynn has filed a restraining order to try to block the January 6th Committee from gathering evidence pertaining to him. We don’t expect this legal action to do Flynn any good; the courts would need to grant him a preliminary injunction in order to even so much as delay things, which seems unlikely. But Flynn’s wording in his filing is nonetheless notable.

Legal expert Teri Kanefield flagged this particular quote from Michael Flynn’s filing: “”The select committee— assuming the role of the shadow prosecutor for the January 6 attack and working in parallel with the actual prosecutors at the Department of Justice…”

Wait a minute here. Is Flynn merely referring to the fact that the January 6th Committee has referred multiple people to the Department of Justice for refusing to cooperate with its probe? Or has Flynn seen some deeper level of cooperation between the committee and the DOJ? If the DOJ is probing Flynn over January 6th or any related matters, he could have been tipped off by procedural moves such as subpoenas of his associates.

Of course Michael Flynn is not exactly what you’d call a reliable narrator, given the whacked out conspiracy theories he likes to peddle. But earlier today we said that it would be worth watching for any additional indicators that the DOJ and the 1/6 committee might be coordinating with each other, and now we’ve got one of the committee’s confirmed targets insisting in a court filing that they are coordinating with each other. This keeps getting more interesting, to say the least.
