Democrats won a special election big time this week and no one noticed
For all the inaccurate polling out there (and worse, the media’s insistence on intentionally mischaracterizing what the polls are even saying), every now and then there’s an actual election to give us real numbers. And we don’t always have to wait until November.
For instance, this week there was a special election to fill two vacated seats in the Michigan state legislature. Both seats previously belonged to the Democrats. But in both instances, the Democrats won by huge blowout margins, bigger than expected.
Over the past few years we’ve seen the Democrats outperform expectations in election after election. The midterms, the odd year elections, the special elections, you name it, the Democrats have been outperforming nearly every time. It’s a reminder that turnout, not polling or punditry, wins elections. Let’s put in the work in November to drive turnout as high as possible.
