Democratic Senator Mark Kelly comes out swinging

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

On Sunday, Jake Tapper drew some well-deserved scorn across social media when he had Rep. Dan Crenshaw on his show who proceeded to lie about investigations into Donald Trump with no pushback – essentially amplifying a ridiculous right-wing narrative to a mainstream audience. This was hardly the first time that Tapper’s overall incompetence has been exposed – in fact, on the same day, he managed to make an ass of himself by grilling his next guest – Sen. Mark Kelly on the current water crisis in Western states. Fortunately for us, Sen. Kelly was having none of it and immediately tore his argument apart.

He first pointed out that the previous administration and its routine attacks on the EPA played a significant role in this crisis – but he wasn’t done. Tapper decided then to call it an existential crisis, but Kelly was quick to shoot down that it’s not existential – Democrats have solutions that can be executed – and in fact, there are solutions that Kelly was able to add in the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act. Tapper is playing a dangerous game – as he’s trusted by the public to provide accurate coverage but throughout the questioning, was willing to echo accusations of the recently signed legislation not reaching far enough – instead of educating the public on what it actually includes.

While Tapper deserves scorn for his usual routine of holding Democrats to impossible standards and holding Republicans to no standards, his interview with Mark Kelly was significantly more consequential – particularly as Kelly faces a tough re-election battle this year against a dangerous extremist. Kelly faced the problem proactively – while sending a clear message of not only what Democrats are capable of – but the significance of what they can pass with even a slight advantage in the Senate. Do what you can to help Sen. Mark Kelly in his re-election battle by volunteering or donating here and let’s expand our majority to get even more done for the American people.
