Donald Trump’s rapidly deteriorating cognitive abilities over the past several months have become so obvious that even Trump knows it’s a problem. He asked a military doctor to give him a cognitive test, and then bragged that he passed it, even though the toughest questions on the test involved correctly identifying a picture of a lion. But Trump’s latest planned move strongly suggests that he really does have some kind of dementia, because he can’t even remember who’s who within his own inner circle, or which of them he likes and hates.

Now that Trump has decided he wants to get rid of White House Chief of Staff John Kelly because of the Rob Porter scandal, he’s begun kicking around new names as his replacement. We’ll see whether or not Trump really does get rid of Kelly; he often talks about firing people without going through with it, and he’s done this specifically with Kelly before. The alarming part here is the name that Trump is now floating to take Kelly’s place.

Trump is focused on hiring economic adviser Gary Cohn as his new White House Chief of Staff, according to a new CNN report (link). This is bizarre, because Trump hates Cohn, and Cohn hates Trump. We all saw Cohn call Trump a racist after the Charlottesville white supremacist scandal. We all saw Trump punish Cohn for those remarks by refusing to appoint him as Fed Chair. We all saw Cohn’s horribly insulting quotes about Trump in Michael Wolff’s book just a few weeks ago. Then we saw media reports that Trump was irate at Cohn over those quotes.

Now, just a few weeks later, Donald Trump is talking about hiring the same Gary Cohn as his closest and most important White House adviser. Trump quite seriously appears to have forgotten that he and Cohn hate each other and have no respect for each other. That’s not even possible, unless Trump truly is suffering from some level of dementia. This is beyond bizarre.
