Deer in the headlights
Why are House Republicans in toss-up districts talking openly about the possibility of staying home and letting Democrats elect a Speaker? They know that the ongoing embarrassment of having no Speaker – and the prospect of having an embarrassingly insane Speaker like Jim Jordan – could end up costing them reelection.
This is enough of an issue that the media is now asking House Republican “leaders” like Kevin McCarthy about it. Unfortunately for McCarthy, he has no answer:
Raju: What does this do to swing district Republicans in Biden districts?
McCarthy: [blames Democrats]
Raju: You guys can’t govern!
McCarthy: I don’t— I don’t know… pic.twitter.com/8Xt8Jz67Kx

That’s right, the Republican House is at the “I don’t know” stage of its own downfall. They’re deer in the headlights at this point.
