Donald Trump goes berserk as William Barr’s plan falls apart

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump’s handpicked Attorney General William Barr surely knew that he’d eventually have to testify before Congress about his attempts at misrepresenting the Mueller report. But apparently Barr wasn’t prepared to be grilled by a hired prosecutor during his House Judiciary Committee testimony, and so he’s threatening not to show up this Thursday – which would leave him in contempt. As Barr’s plan falls apart, Trump isn’t exactly taking it well.

After Donald Trump went thirty-six hours without a meltdown over the weekend, we figured he was overdue. Sure enough, he exploded with rage this morning. But what stood out was the sheer incoherence of Trump’s rants. First he accused New York State of “illegally” investigating his pals at the NRA, while repeating his longstanding lie that people are “fleeing” New York. Then he began attacking unions and their “Dues Crazy union leadership.” Then he began a rant about Joe Biden and never did finish it, before going back to attacking “Dues Sucking firefighters leadership.”

This guy is foaming at the mouth so severely, he can’t even keep his lines of attack straight, and has instead been weaving back and forth among half-finished thoughts. Nor is he able to keep his lies straight. He criticized the New York Times today because “they haven’t apologized to me,” even though he recently made the false claim that the New York Times had apologized to him.

So what’s really going on here? Whatever William Barr’s original plan was to get Donald Trump off the hook, it surely didn’t involve Barr facing the prospect of being interrogated by a hired prosecutor and having to risk being held in contempt of Congress just to dodge it, along with all the consequences and negative attention that would come from that. Has Barr admitted to Donald Trump that the plan is falling apart? Something has Trump in even more of a tizzy today than usual.
