It’s been so many days since White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders held a press briefing, we don’t have enough fingers to count that far back. Today she had to pay the piper, because her boss Donald Trump screwed up so badly, a briefing had to be scheduled. Suffice it to say that things didn’t go particularly well for her behind the podium – and that wasn’t the only thing that went terrible wrong for her today.

Donald Trump tweeted such a laughably false claim about the economy this morning, his economic adviser Kevin Hassett had to go to the podium and take the blame for it, in the hope of making the whole thing go away. Because the press was assembled, there was no way that Sarah Huckabee Sanders was going to be able to get away with not answering questions. Let’s just say that reporters had more than a few pointed questions up their sleeves.

Various reporters pushed Sanders on Trump’s insistence that the anonymous op-ed author be criminally investigated by the Attorney General, despite having broke no laws. That forced her to make the argument that the author could potentially have attended a national security meeting, and therefore might be expected to leak state secrets. Of course that just made things worse, as she was arguing that Trump wanted a criminal investigation into someone, on the hunch that the person might later commit a crime, despite there being zero evidence to support such a notion.

Of course this all came even as Omarosa was releasing a new secret recording of Donald Trump Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Hope Hicks. While the conversation was not criminal in nature, it was delusional and embarrassing, and it proves that Omarosa was indeed able to get close enough to them to record them. What else did she catch them saying? Looks like we’ll soon find out. Huckabee Sanders’ day just keeps getting worse for her.
