David Pecker takes the witness stand, sticks it to Donald Trump

Yesterday it was reported that former National Enquirer boss David Pecker would be the first witness for the prosecution in Donald Trump’s criminal trial. Sure enough, with opening arguments having taken place this morning, Pecker ended up taking the stand at around noon.

Pecker’s testimony is important because he can help corroborate much of the upcoming testimony from Michael Cohen, who was at the center of the scandal that this Trump criminal trial is based on. And while Pecker has been far from an honest man throughout his life, he did previously cut an immunity deal in a previous Trump-related case. So it’s a fair bet that he’ll very likely tell the truth in this trial, in order to once again protect himself.

Pecker is already acknowledging that he personally had final say on any National Enquirer stories that required a payout larger than $10,000, which means he was directly involved in buying and then suppressing Karen McDougal’s story on Trump’s behalf. This lends credibility to Cohen’s upcoming testimony that Trump had him pay Stormy Daniels in the same way Trump had Pecker pay McDougal.

Pecker’s testimony is ongoing, and his cross examination is yet to come. But he’s already sticking it to Trump just by taking the stand and helping to corroborate various aspects of the prosecution’s case.
