Paul Manafort’s daughter runs for the hills

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The ink is barely dry on Paul Manafort’s eight felony convictions, even as he prepares to head into a second trial where he’s facing several more felony charges. It turns out his daughter isn’t waiting around to see how the rest of the debacle plays out, and instead she’s taking a remarkable step toward distancing herself from her father – and it may provide some foreshadowing for where this is all heading for Donald Trump.

Paul Manafort’s daughter Jessica Manafort just filed the paperwork to legally change her name to Jessica Bond, which is her mother’s maiden name, according to the New York Post. If anyone is wondering if there’s any chance this might be some grand coincidence, it’s not one. She’s flat out stating that she’s looking to distance herself from the public perception associated with her father’s life of crime. Here’s the thing.

As the Trump-Russia continues to unravel, we’re probably going to see a lot more of this. We’ve already seen Donald Trump Jr’s wife and Rudy Giuliani’s wife file for divorce in the time since this scandal began unfolding. How much of that has to do with the fact that Trump Jr is on his way to prison, or the fact that Giuliani is being investigated by the Department of Justice Inspector General? It looks like people are fleeing this mess already. But it’s the name changes that are particularly intriguing.

It takes a moment to stop and think about which of Donald Trump’s family members aren’t at risk of going to prison. We’re pretty sure Melania Trump and Barron Trump will get through this without being criminally charged; should we start referring to them as Melania Knauss and Barron Knauss now, or should we wait until Donald Trump is in prison, and they make their name changes official? You know this kind of thing is coming. Jessica Manafort, or should we say Jessica Bond, is just the start of where this is headed.
