Damned if he does

Tony Fabrizio is Donald Trump’s pollster. And he has bad news for Trump. Fabrizio says most people who voted for Trump in the 2024 election are sharply OPPOSED — very much so — to any cuts involving Medicaid funding.
“There’s really not a political appetite out there to go after Medicaid to pay for tax cuts.”
As you know, Trump and other Republicans want to slash Medicaid. They want to slash it so they can raid it like the thieves they are, and give out these ginormous tax cuts to their wealthy friends. But all signs point to danger if they do that.
Bob Ward, partner to Fabrizio, explains it like this: “Medicaid has touched so many families, that people have made up their minds about what they do want to see cut.”
This poll was taken between March 20 and March 24; it is pretty recent. This is not good news for the GOP, but then again, these days — what is?
Most polls have found that people DO want to get rid of government waste (or, as the GOP puts it so inarticulately , “WASTE, FRAUD AND ABUSE”.)
They just don’t want the GOP to cut THEIR services to pay for it. So now the Republicans are in a damned if we do, damned if we don’t, kind of situation.
If they DO make these cuts, they piss off their own voters. If they don’t, they risk pissing off big chief orange-head. For most people, it wouldn’t even be a choice, but for the GOP?
They have been reduced to squirming and slithery inchworms, but they only appear to be measuring how mad their master will be at them if they do not follow his directions.
