Donald Trump puts both hands on the wheel of the crazy train

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

In one of the Avengers movies, Bruce Banner says that even when he turns into the Incredible Hulk, he usually still feels like he has one hand on the wheel. It’s a surprisingly apt metaphor for Donald Trump, whose instinct is to go on a berserk rampage, and his legal and political advisers, who are always trying to minimize the damage during those rampages. The difference is that the Hulk smashes up cities, while Trump smashes up his own prospects of surviving his criminal scandals. Today it was made abundantly clear that Trump is now driving this crazy train all by himself.

When Trump tweeted last night that he was going to appear on Fox & Friends in the morning, it was immediately a bad sign for him. His lawyers are fighting battles in criminal court right now to try to block damning evidence from the Michael Cohen raid. Trump’s nomination of Ronny Jackson has exploded in scandal. This is not a time for Trump to be going on live television and freelancing it, even with friendly hosts.

Trump’s appearance on Fox ended up being even more off the rails than we were expecting. Even the hosts seemed stunned at what they were hearing from him, and ultimately ended up politely kicking him off the air. Somewhere in there Trump admitted that Michael Cohen isn’t really his attorney, that he really did spend the night in Moscow during the Pee Pee Tape incident, and more. We’re surprised he didn’t confess to kidnapping the Lindbergh baby and sinking the Titanic.

But the big upshot here isn’t that Donald Trump had his most unstable public meltdown to date. It’s that no one around him was able to prevent it from happening, even after they learned yesterday that he was planning to do this. There is no longer anyone who can stop Trump from self destruction.
