Donald Trump crashes and burns

Dear Palmer Report readers,

We all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Journalists will be prosecuted. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're looking to start funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens or how dark things get. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $3360 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Bill Palmer

Just when you think “president” Donald Trump can get no worse, he proves you wrong — again. With everything going on right now, he spent his morning on Twitter, crowing about growing job numbers. When the country began reopening from COVID-19, the increase in jobs occurred as a natural progression. Of course, when you have absolutely nothing with which to toot your own horn, you must go back to using your imagination.

Meanwhile, Trump’s numbers continue to plummet, and Bloomberg reported that the ACLU has teamed with Black Lives Matter to sue Trump for his intent to harm American citizens with tear gas. What else does Trump have but his imaginary accomplishments? To rub salt into Trump’s already open wound, the Mayor of DC authorized the painting of “Black lives matter” in huge yellow letters on the street leading up the White House. It was one banner day for “president” Trump.

For Trump to brag about job numbers speaks volumes about his lack of character. As Joe Biden said in Dover, as quoted by CNN, “The president who takes no responsibility for costing millions and millions of Americans their jobs deserves no credit when a fraction of them return.” He took the words right out of my head. In fact, when I first heard about Trump bragging, I immediately thought that when things are bad, Trump takes no responsibility. When things turn good — with no help from him — he wants to hog credit that does not belong to him. That is Trump’s typical behavior. Just as he claimed credit for the previously strong economy, the foundation of which was laid by the Obama administration, he refuses to take blame for trying to hide COVID-19 from us, and he absolutely takes no credit for the unrest currently plaguing our nation, which he encouraged. General Mattis is correct that he “does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us.” That is the one thing he does well, which is not good.

While Trump was patting himself on the back, NPR was taking polls. NPR’s poll revealed that two-thirds of Americans believe Trump made racial tensions worse following George Floyd’s murder. 67% of those polled believe that Trump has increased racial tensions in this country, but the most striking numbers are contained within that count. 73% of independents, 88% of African Americans, and 63% of whites all agree: Donald Trump is a loser when it comes to handling race issues. Even though the number appears small, 29% of Republicans believe Trump has increased tensions.

NPR calls this number “significant” because Republicans have typically gone along with whatever Trump says and does, even though they must know Trump is wrong 99.9% of the time. This poll also reveals that Trump’s approval rating is close to a record low with 55% disapproving of him overall, representing a 5% increase. NPR put this in perspective: Trump’s current disapproval rating is 1% above his popular vote in the election. You know what this means? Goodbye “president” Trump, hello President Biden.
