Court battle against Madison Cawthorn gets even uglier
Rep. Madison Cawthorn is one of the more disgusting members of Congress. And right now, he’s in the fight of his life. As Palmer Report laid out for you, a group of activists filed a challenge to Cawthorn’s right to be on the North Carolina ballot.
This all came about because of a clause in the Constitution based on the 14th Amendment. barring anyone who had engaged in Sedition from being able to run. Nobody can run “who having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress…to support the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same.”
If this challenge moves forward, Cawthorn would have to prove he is NOT an insurrectionist — and did not engage in seditious behavior. This challenge appears to be going forward. And Cawthorn seems extremely worried about it. If the challenge is successful, Cawthorn will not be able to run in North Carolina.
Appearing on Tucker Carlson’s show, Cawthorn appeared fidgety and anxious. And he told Tucker that if this challenge is successful, it will “subvert the will” of voters.
And Cawthorn started babbling. In the midst of his babble, he said these attempts to bar him from the ballot are “very close” to succeeding. I hope they do succeed. Just to be realistic — even if the challenge finds success, Cawthorn is likely to appeal. But I am happy about these developments.
I don’t think anyone with even minimal intelligence could argue that Cawthorn has clean hands in all this. That is my opinion anyway. His behavior has been disgraceful, and frankly, were he to be ousted from the ballot, I’m sure most North Carolinians would breathe a big sigh of relief.
