Oh good, Donald Trump is now talking about a “coup”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Over the weekend, a desperate and flailing Donald Trump did what a lot of us expected him to do once his presidency went down the drain: he embraced the idea of a “Civil War” if he’s impeached and removed from office. This was an act of treason, and yet it prompted just one House Republican to come out against him. Now Trump is trying a new approach.

Just forty-eight hours after having called for a violent coup against the United States, Donald Trump is now doing what he does best: he’s accusing the other side of attempting a coup. No really, the guy is being just that transparently pathetic and obvious.

Here’s what Trump tweeted: “As I learn more and more each day, I am coming to the conclusion that what is taking place is not an impeachment, it is a COUP, intended to take away the Power of the People, their VOTE, their Freedoms, their Second Amendment, Religion, Military, Border Wall, and their God-given rights as a Citizen of The United States of America!”

Okay, that’s all nice and cute, but none of it’s within a million miles of reality. Donald Trump has been caught trying to conspire with multiple foreign nations against the United States, and now that he’s far more likely to go to prison than to get a second term, he’s daring to accuse the House of attempting a “coup” because it’s moving forward with actions that are specifically granted to it in the Constitution. Not that Trump has ever read the thing, of course. Trump is out of time and out of ideas.
