Donald Trump’s coronavirus vaccine election stunt just went down the tubes

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When Donald Trump started vaguely threatening to rush an untested or phony vaccine to market just before election day, Palmer Report pointed out that he was never going to be able to pull it off. Pharmaceutical manufacturers would sound the alarm. Scores of whistleblowers within the FDA would light up the airwaves.

Sure enough, the FDA is now in the process of rolling out strict standards for coronavirus vaccine approval, which will make it all but impossible for Donald Trump to put a crappy vaccine out the door before the election. This is notable because FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn has gone to some pretty embarrassing lengths to falsely paint a pretty picture of how Trump has been handling the pandemic. But apparently even Hahn has his limits, and he’s making moves to prevent Trump from doing something truly stupid. And no, Trump can’t simply fire Hahn and then roll out a phony vaccine anyway; nothing is that simple.

Palmer Report continues to expect that Donald Trump will falsely announce just days before the election that a vaccine will be available shortly after the election. This is unlikely to help Trump get any votes, because no one outside his existing base is likely to believe anything he says at this point. But we’ll still have to remain vigilant and ready to push back against whatever nonsense Trump ends up trying to announce.
