Congressman confirms the real reason Jared Kushner got his security clearance back

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Yesterday it was reported that Jared Kushner had given a lengthy interview to Special Counsel Robert Mueller last month, and that Kushner’s top level security clearance was being reinstated. Donald Trump’s White House tried to spin this as Mueller having cleared Kushner. Palmer Report quickly pointed out that this was clearly not what happened, and we were disappointed to see so many major media outlets playing along with Trump’s party line. Now a member of Congress is backing us up on this.

It was fairly clear what really happened here: when Trump learned that Kushner had begun cooperating on some level with Mueller, he panicked and reinstated Kushner’s clearance, in the hope of convincing him not to continue cooperating with Mueller. But Trump wanted us to believe that Mueller had somehow abruptly decided that Kushner was innocent (which would not have happened at this point in time), and that Mueller and the DOJ/FBI gave Kushner his clearance back because of it (even though that wouldn’t be their call). Sure enough, Congressman Ted Lieu is now setting the record straight.

Here’s what Ted Lieu, a former Air Force JAG prosecutor who has a law degree and sits on the House Judiciary Committee, explained it on Twitter: “FBI does not grant or adjudicate security clearances. Decision to give Jared Kushner a clearance was made solely by the White House.” In other words, it happened like we said it happened.

We’re not sure why so many media outlets went along with the party line on this one, when the Trump White House version of what happened was clearly not realistic or even possible. But the bottom line is this: Donald Trump gave Jared Kushner his security clearance back after learning that Kushner had begun showing some level of cooperation with Robert Mueller. That alone makes the whole thing a sham.
