CNN hints at potentially declaring the election winner today
The remaining math says that Joe Biden is almost definitely going to win Pennsylvania. Now the Pennsylvania Secretary of State has announced that the vote counting in the state could be largely done today.
This is a big deal, because if and when the major news outlets call Pennsylvania for Joe Biden, it’ll put him over 270 regardless of any other states, and they’ll be declaring him the next President of the United States.
CNN in particular is now hinting at this possibility. In the past hour alone, two of its on-air personalities have suggested that the winner of the election could be named by the end of the day. They know we’re all tired and fatigued, and I can’t imagine CNN would hype this scenario unless it’s something that’s realistic.
So when exactly will they call the election? That’s up to each news outlet. I think the math basically proves Joe Biden is going to win Pennsylvania, but the news outlets have to consider the impact on the nation of making such a call.
If I had to guess, I suspect the news outlets will wait until Biden takes the lead in Pennsylvania and then call it. Once Biden pulls ahead in the state, he’s obviously going to stay there. So we’ll see.
