CNN has turned into a dumpster fire of right wing propaganda
Of all the major political stories yesterday – warrants in the Trump criminal probe, shifting midterm polls, groundbreaking legislation in the Senate – the first three headlines listed on CNN’s website yesterday evening were all about Hunter Biden.
Today, the top headline on CNN’s website is “Super High Inflation” with no mention of the Democrats’ new legislation. CNN is now just a clearing house for Republican propaganda. It knows right wingers will eagerly flock to such garbage because they want to be told they’re winning, and it knows liberal viewers will also flock to it out of the mistaken belief that being “vigilant” means paying close attention to every negative piece of tripe that the media cranks out about the Democrats.
Cable news has always been an inherently flawed format where ratings-chasing is a necessary evil just to bring in enough revenue to cover the extremely high costs of production and operation. But for all its many failings, CNN long seemed like it was at least doing more good than harm. At this point there’s honestly no way to make that argument anymore. CNN is basically Fox News without the overt racism.
If CNN can’t turn this around, and fast, it’ll be time to shut CNN down and give the money back to the shareholders. It’s become nothing short of a menace to the public discourse – and the rest of us have to work that much harder to correct the bullshit that CNN now spends 24/7 spewing.
