Clear and Present Danger

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Many years ago, this writer had a blind date. Perhaps you have been on a blind date at some point in your life. They can be nerve-racking! This writer would like to tell you about mine. All was going well. He was pleasant and polite. Later, a group of us went to his home.

I walked in cheerfully — and caught my breath in horror. For there, they were. Stack by stack, wall to wall, perhaps a wall-to-wall homage? Hitler books. The ONLY books in this home that this writer could see.

Hitler on top of the mantle. Hitler in the living room. Pages upon pages of Hitler as this writer felt her blood drain and her mouth fill with cotton. I left — I sort of ran like a scared rabbit. For how could I not? Why would you want to spend any amount of time in rooms with dozens, maybe hundreds, of these things staring you in the face?

You see, back then, Hitler had not been normalized the way Donald Trump has tried to normalize him. I can’t imagine the courage and soul-searching it must have taken General John Kelly to tell the American people what Trump had said. And yet, it is not a surprise—to anyone RATIONAL.

Trump doesn’t read, but if he did? If he did? I am all but certain his books would be on –– Stalin –– Putin –– Hitler –– And many more shards of evil. Luckily, this story is getting a lot of attention. Indeed, I cannot turn on the news without seeing it.

Of course, Trump denies it. He also denies that he said he wanted generals like the ones Hitler had. Does anyone believe him? I doubt it.

Watching his defenders the other night all but do handstands trying to defend him was quite amazing. But they can’t. Some things are indefensible.

So Kelly, a gentleman, dubbed trump a fascist. He is. WE have been saying that for years. Is it mere years? It seems like centuries to me. Trump is a clear and present danger. The country knows it. The world knows it. And the voters know it.
