Donald Trump just got played by Chuck Schumer
On Tuesday, Donald Trump’s handpicked leaders of the U.S. intelligence community publicly testified to Congress that the North Korea situation is getting worse, that ISIS is still a danger, and that the Iran situation is stable. These truths are the opposite of what Trump likes to pretend is true, so he went berserk on his own intel leaders on Wednesday.
This prompted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to post a public letter on Wednesday night, demanding that U.S. intel leaders stage an “intervention” with Donald Trump in order to explain reality to him. Sure enough, such a meeting did in fact take place today behind closed doors. We only know about this meeting because Trump just told us about it.
Trump posted this rather surreal tweet on Thursday night: “Just concluded a great meeting with my Intel team in the Oval Office who told me that what they said on Tuesday at the Senate Hearing was mischaracterized by the media – and we are very much in agreement on Iran, ISIS, North Korea, etc. Their testimony was distorted press. I would suggest you read the COMPLETE testimony from Tuesday. A false narrative is so bad for our Country. I value our intelligence community. Happily, we had a very good meeting, and we are all on the same page!”
This tweet is of course absurd on its face, and it sounds like a rejected sequel to George Orwell’s 1984. But Donald Trump’s deranged attempts at twisting reality aside, he just got played. Chuck Schumer demanded that U.S. intel leaders hold an intervention with Trump, and so they did, with the intention of no one knowing about it. Then Trump went and told the whole world that his own intel leaders did in fact stage an intervention with him. Trump just got played.
