For months, a number of liberal media pundits have been attacking Chuck Schumer, accusing him of not knowing what he’s doing, demanding that he step down as Senate Majority Leader, and even spreading some rather silly conspiracy theories about him. This has all been based on… well, nothing.

The crux of the anti-Schumer argument has been that there’s a magic wand he could be waving in order to make all of the Democratic Party’s priorities instantly happen, and that he’s refusing to wave it. This is absurd, because everyone who follows politics knows what a long and complex process it is to get anything done legislatively. Mitch McConnell’s Senate got a total of one major piece of legislation – the tax bill – passed in the two years that his party had total control over the government. Schumer’s Senate has already met that mark with the far reaching stimulus bill alone.

Now Schumer has just been vindicated in a major way. He managed to get Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, the two big idiots in his own party, to support a two-track infrastructure package that’s going to end up including most or all of what President Biden and the Democrats wanted all along. You know this two-track approach is the real deal because people like Bernie Sanders, who have been demanding that the full infrastructure agenda happen, are fully supporting it.

In other words, while there is still plenty of sausage making left in terms of crafting the reconciliation portion of the infrastructure package, and perhaps a lot more public pressure coming over just how large and comprehensive to make the reconciliation bill, we’re now on a clear and tangible path to success. Chuck Schumer brought the problem children of his party under control and got it done, just like we knew he would.

This still leaves voting rights legislation, which is at least as important as infrastructure legislation. But that’s a battle for another day. The super-complicated but ultimately very successful infrastructure finagling has proven that Chuck Schumer knows exactly what he’s doing. He’ll get voting rights legislation done too, with our help and support. The defeatists who are still insisting voting rights legislation will never happen are the same defeatists who incorrectly insisted infrastructure would never happen either.
