There’s something going on with Jeff Flake and Chris Coons again in the Kavanaugh nomination
The last time GOP Senator Jeff Flake decided he needed to speak with Democratic Senator Chris Coons about the Brett Kavanaugh nomination, it ended with Flake calling for an FBI investigation into Kavanaugh. That report has arrived, and it’s clear that the crippled probe is not what Flake called for. Now suddenly Flake is reaching out for Coons’ counsel yet again.
Jeff Flake got to hear the reading of the FBI report this morning. Afterward, reporter Elaina Plott from The Atlantic tweeted that Flake is still “having issues” and that he’s reached out to Chris Coons and “asked if they could speak at length later.” So what does this tell us?
That may depend on what Jeff Flake saw in the FBI report. He’s previously said on 60 Minutes that if Kavanaugh lied to the Senate about anything, he’s disqualified. Flake also hinted earlier this week that he could push for a lengthier FBI probe if he’s not satisfied with the initial results.
Jeff Flake is a flake, so it’s not surprising that he once again appears to be on the fence. But we’ve seen that Flake tends to listen to the last person he’s spoken with, so it may be telling that he’s making a point of seeking out Chris Coons, a friend he knows will try to talk him into voting “no.” Stay tuned.
