Chris Christie just beat Donald Trump at his own game

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When Donald Trump lost yet another White House Chief of Staff last month, no one wanted the job. This left Trump to turn to Chris Christie out of desperation. Christie seemed to play along like he was interested, but then very publicly announced that he didn’t want the gig, leaving Trump looking foolish for having offered it to him. Now it turns out the whole thing was much more cutthroat.

Chris Christie is releasing a new book which slams the Trump regime for being amateurs and grifters. Books like this don’t just fall out of the sky. There’s no doubt Christie was already secretly working on this book, and pretty far along into it, when he briefly pretended last month that he wanted Trump’s Chief of Staff job.

By leaking that Trump had offered him the job, and then publicly rejecting him, Christie publicly established himself as having credibility in Trump’s eyes. This in turn lends heft to Christie’s new hit job of a book about the Trump regime. The average consumer is going to think, “Well, this is the guy whom Trump just tried to hire, so I guess I should read his anti-Trump book, because he must know something.”

When public figures write insider books like this, it’s always about money. Millions of dollars are there for the taking. Chris Christie ultimately failed in politics, so he’s cashing out in a big way. He’s doing it at Donald Trump’s expense, and he just manipulated Trump in the process. It’s precisely the kind of backstabbing thing Trump would do, but Christie beat him at his own game.
