Welcome to the child genocide phase of the Donald Trump debacle
I’ll get in trouble with some folks on both sides for saying this, but I don’t care, because it’s true and it must be said: we’re approaching the genocide phase of the Donald Trump administration. Don’t misquote me. I didn’t say we’re there yet. But we’re now learning that we’re frighteningly close – and it’s the kids who are in line to be the first victims.
It’s already long been known that in its racist efforts to punish and harm Mexican families attempting to enter the United States, the Donald Trump administration has been separating kids from their parents. Now we’re learning the administration has been putting these kids in sponsor homes, and along the way it’s “lost” roughly fifteen hundred of these kids. This isn’t some wide eyed, thinly sourced conspiracy theory. This is an admission coming from Steven Wagner, a top official with Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services, and reported by every major news outlet. This is really happening. But we all know this is a lot uglier than what’s being admitted.
No one – not even the consistently incompetent Trump administration – is capable of being inept enough to lose track of 1500 kids, unless they’re purposely trying not to keep track of these kids. So what the hell kind of “sponsor” homes is the Trump regime putting these kids into, if it feels compelled to not keep basic records of where it’s putting them? Are these kids being shoved in broom closets? Is the Trump regime selling them to human traffickers? We don’t know yet. But I can guarantee you this, and you know it in your gut too: some of these kids are dead.
Here’s the official definition of “genocide” as spelled out on the United Nations website:
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
Killing members of the group;
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
We already know that the Donald Trump administration has been targeting these kids and families based entirely on their Mexican nationality and Hispanic ethnicity. We’re eventually going to learn the details of where some of these kids disappeared to, and we’re going to see that the Trump administration knowingly and purposely put at least some of these kids into conditions that were meant to bring about their “physical destruction.” So you tell me how close we are to the genocide phase of the Donald Trump era. By the way, Trump posted a tweet today cravenly blaming the Democrats for what he’s done to these children – in case we needed even more or a reminder what kind of a monster he truly is.
