Joe Biden just got the cherry on top of his Super Tuesday haul
Joe Biden’s Super Tuesday was largely going to be determined by how much he could run up the score in states like Virginia and North Carolina, in order to absorb whatever delegates losses he might end up suffering in California. Sure enough, Biden was able to run up the score by a large margin. Then he started winning some smaller states that no one was expecting. Now he’s gotten the cherry on top.
Earlier this evening, Palmer Report explained that mathematically speaking, it wouldn’t much matter who won Texas. It was going to be decided by just a few percentage points, which meant that Biden and Sanders were each going to get roughly half of the state’s delegates, with the winner getting just a little more than half.
But from a perception standpoint, even if Biden ended up winning the largest number of Super Tuesday delegates overall, the media would start trying to push Bernie mania by pointing to his wins in the two largest states of the day, California and Texas. The thing is, as of several minutes ago, NBC News and ABC News have called Texas for Joe Biden.
This isn’t shocking. He was only behind in the polls in Texas when the week began, and his momentum ended up being enough to put him over the top. So now Biden gets the cherry on top of his Super Tuesday delegate haul: the media will be talking about how Sanders is in trouble for losing Texas. By the way, Sanders will win California, but as of right now he’s in danger of only winning it by single digits. So much for the notion that Sanders was going to sweep California.
