For the past several months, Kamala Harris had been widely seen as the clear frontrunner in Joe Biden’s running mate selection process. But with so many other viable names in the mix, and so much misdirection coming from the media near the end, there was just enough suspense about this evening’s announcement that nothing was a given.

Still, given that there was probably always an 80% chance it was going to be Kamala Harris, the reaction out of the gate has been off the charts. There’s a genuine excitement among party leaders of all stripes, and an energy within the voting base tonight.
